August 2021

It maybe about time that I actually invest some time into documenting more of a timeline with my Automobile Journalism. I've used Facebook and my website to generally post random activities and achievements from past and present events, where I would feel more comfortable having it in some sort of order. So, here we go, Part 1 of many, month by month starting with August 2021.
We head to Palmerston North for the 50th annual swap meet, located at the Manfeild Circuit.
Collabing with Shane Wishnowsky to assist with photography for the event, was my first time attending the event in fact, alternatively not my first time at the track for other events though, so finding my way around was no problem, and I will definitely be back, if not for the cars on display but the swap meet its self to pick up a bargain. Around 1pm that day it wraps up, and I was off for my main objective, which was to cover the Winter Chill Out Day, hosted by Kruzin Kustoms. The name may lead you to believe that Kruzin Kustoms open day is chilled, but in reality it's full on. Collecting a free snag and beer on entering, I was drawn to a series of quality cars and craftsmanship. You will see many more feature cars come from this once completed!
You can read more about these in issue 197 of NZV8

Llama Engineering Open day.
With its disrupted start due to a Covid-19 case in Wellington. We headed along to its second announced date. Llama is responsible for the engineering on my own personal car, a 02 SS VX Commodore Dubbed W4RDOG. I was excited to take along to the new location of the shop, which was the reason behind the open day. Covering the story and photography of the day was rad, and catching up with locals and seeing all the new developments of the shop were educational and interesting. You can read all about that in both issue 292 of NZ performance magazine and issue 196 of NZV8 Magazine.

On the forecast, we catch up with a forgotten 70s challenger belonging to a legend in drag racing and engine building.
And we see a new development on an old drag car with a new lease on life in circuit racing.

Pandemic Perfection

This month we head along to Kohl Rod and customs to meet up with Zach and his impeccable 1983 VH Commodore. Covid-19 took its toll on good old New Zealand. But the world we knew was in lockdown. It gave Zach Kohl time to build a killer interior. The first time you lay your eyes on the car, the first thing that grabs your attention is the lush tan interior. With it contrasting against the vibrant green paintwork. Engine set up runs a rebuilt Holden 308ci, matched up with a Toyota W55 Toyota gear box and 28 Spline trutrac ford 9inch. Its an outstanding build with no expense speared.

FERGSTER

I've known Ian 'Ferg' for a while now having the opportunity to shoot his show winning scratch build 32 Roadster was an honour, making it as a feature in NZV8 as well was pretty cool! This month we got to go out and photograph Bills outstanding 95 MG RV8 For New Zealand Classic Car Heading out to the sunny side of Plimmerton Boating club it gave us a great backdrop for the green pearl to pop under the golden hour sun of the coast. Making the cover photo was a surprise being my first for NZCC. Working with Bill was easy he's a great guy with a lot of history behind British Motorsport and with a logbook of racing history behind him. have a flick through the other photos we captured that day. /- https://www.rixstaphotography.com/95
